Samuel "Sammy" McMillan was born in Clarksville, TN. He began his basketball career by playing in middle school and high school on the AAU circuit in Clarksville. Samuel also made the SAGU team as a manager and saw how the head coach there ran his practices and coaches his players. Samuel fell in love with coaching and went on to start his coaching career in the AAU realm, by joining the Texas Wildcats. Samuel was taught how to coach and how to lead his players to be successful and went on to have great success in that program. Samuel then went on to try coaching in the middle school ranks at Waxahachie Preparatory Academy, where he currently coaches as the head coach of the middle school boys and girls team. He has plans to go up in the ranks there and coach the high school boys' team in the future as well. This will be Coach McMillians' second season with Texas Express (first as head coach), having served as an assistant coach under Coach Lehman in his first year.
Coach McMillan loves to teach kids the game of basketball and takes great joy and pride in teaching the game. Samuel wants to see the looks on their faces as they understand the game; that is what matters the most to him. He expects his players to be professional, coachable, and ready to compete every time on the floor. “The goal in life is to be 1 percent better than you were yesterday. The true mark of growth, in anything you do, is when you get better today and tomorrow you wake up to do it again.”
