Michael Rivera was born in Dallas, Texas, but spent a majority of his life growing up in Killeen, Texas. He played both football and basketball up until his sophomore year in high school. After graduation he attended Navarro Junior College and then Tarleton State University. At Tarleton State, Coach Rivera spent three years as a student assistant with the Men's Basketball team. During his three year stay at Tarleton he served as the head student assistant for two years with the team achieving a 75-20 record and making the Division II National Tournament all three years.
After receiving his bachelor's degree, Coach Rivera married his wife Jennifer and relocated to Dallas, Texas. He became the freshmen coach at John Paul II High School in Plano where the varsity team made it to the TAPPS Final Four. Coach Rivera founded the Texas Gators basketball program in 2012 and coached them from 2012-2015.
After leaving John Paul II, Coach Rivera became the Varsity Assistant/JV Coach at Spruce High School in Dallas. Coach Rivera has also worked as a camp coach at the University of Texas men's summer basketball camps. He also served as a participant in the Jay Bilas Young Coaches Development program this past summer. He loves the game of basketball and the lessons that it offers to individuals. He looks forward to joining the Texas Express program.
