Coach Cornell graduated from Meadowdale High School in 1989 in Dayton, OH and a native of Indianapolis, IN.  He was a highly recruited guard that made his way to Gavlin College in California. After one year he transferred out and eventually made his way to Southern Arkansas University in Magnolia, AR, where he was member of the Mulerider Basketball team.

Coach Cornell graduated from SAU with Bachelor of Science in Secondary Education and Kinesiology. He also obtained a Bachelor of Science in General Studies from Texas A&M University-Texarkana.
